At their meeting on May 7, amid Early Voting for the Republican Second Primary, the Buncombe County Board of Elections voted to request a one-week extension from the North Carolina State Board of Elections to submit the Early Voting implementation plan for the General Election.

More than 410 people chimed in on a public input survey on the proposed plan with more than 800 comments and most participants approving the plan with minor changes. Weekend hours, accessibility, and adding more rural locations were the top concerns.

After a deliberation of possible sites, and several suggestions, no site is confirmed in the far southwest corner of the County. The Board asked Elections Director Corinne Duncan to request the one-week extension to finalize a plan with 14 locations across the County. The Early Voting Survey will reopen until Friday, May 10 at 5 p.m. Staff has explored Pole Creek Baptist Church, Upper Hominy Fire & Rescue and is asking for suggestions in that area. Needed site amenities include ADA compliance, internet capability, and ample parking. Find the survey here.

The Board of Elections expects to vote and submit an approved plan during their May 14 Election Day meeting.
