Socialserve.com is a service provided for area residents to either list or search for rental property. This service is free to both landlords and perspective tenants, and targets affordable rental housing. To list a property or to view listings visit socialserve.com.

The toll free telephone number to call for help in accessing rental property through this web service is 1-877-428-8844. For persons without internet connection, any Buncombe County Public Library branch offers connectivity. For more information go to SocialServe.com.

 

CDBG Scattered Site Housing Grant

All low income Buncombe County homeowners in need of repairs are encouraged to apply for assistance through the CDBG SSH Grant. Successful applicants may be eligible for rehabilitation or emergency repair of their primary residence. The cost of the repair or rehabilitation would be secured as a forgivable loan in a promissory note and deed of trust prepared and executed by Buncombe County. Homeowners with questions are encouraged to contact the Buncombe County Planning Department at 250-4830, or our contracted agency Mountain Housing Opportunities at 254-4030.

Buncombe County accepts applications on an annual basis in December for eligible projects within Buncombe County. Funding is available for single family home construction and down payment assistance.

Also, the County will now rebate 1/2 the permit fees on homes that are built within Buncombe County that meet state building code and sell for $160,000 or less.

Workforce Housing Application

Development assistance funding, which may include funding for infrastructure, land development costs, and stick built or modular home construction costs, for the creation of units of workforce housing within a single development may be available. The term Workforce Housing refers to housing that a household with an income up to 140% of Area Median Income (AMI) can afford without spending more than 30% of their income on housing costs.
