The Register of Deeds maintains the record of Oaths administered to Notaries commissioned in Buncombe County. (Not on-line at this time) The record shows the date of the Notary Commission, date when the Notary's took their Oath of Office, and the Date the commission will expire. The signature of the notary is also entered in the record book.

Application forms for reappointment, or name change can be obtained from the Register of Deeds Office or on-line in the Secretary of States Office.

For anyone wishing to become a notary in North Carolina they must attend a course of instruction at a Community College. (Attorney's are exempt from the requirement of attending a course of instructions) Information and registration for this class can be obtained from the Continuing Education Department of each community college.
