Keep Our Community Strong! Get a Flu Shot!

Make the choice to get a flu vaccine this year. During the past 2014-2015 flu season, North Carolina recorded its highest number of flu-associated deaths in the past six years.

Flu can be a serious illness, especially for:

  • Adults over 65
  • Children under 5
  • Pregnant Women
  • Those with Medical Conditions (Asthma, Diabetes, Heart Disease)

Flu vaccines are available at your medical provider's office, most pharmacies, and at the Buncombe County's Immunization Clinic at 53 South French Broad Ave between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm. Anyone 6 months and older may receive a flu vaccine, or any vaccine at this location.

Buncombe County Medical Director Dr. Jennifer Mullendor stresses, "The flu can cause fever, chills, body aches, and can be unpredictably serious and even deadly. Because the body's immune response from the flu vaccine wears off over the course of a year, and because the vaccine is made to target different flu virus strains, it is important to get the vaccine every season."

Prevent the spread of the Flu with:

  • Proper hand washing with soap and water
  • Covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue
  • Staying home until you are fever free
