Prescription Drug Discount Card
To help citizens cope with the high price of prescription drugs, the County is providing a discount drug card under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties. The discount cards are available to all County residents regardless of age, income or existing health coverage and are accepted at almost all local pharmacies. Citizens do not have to have Medicare benefits to be eligible for this program. The card will benefit uninsured and underinsured residents and those fortunate to have prescription coverage but have prescriptions not covered by their insurance.
When will cards be available?
The cards are available now at any County department including branch libraries.
Who can have a card?

Citizens do not have to have Medicare benefits to be eligible for this program. The card will benefit uninsured and under -insured residents and those fortunate to have prescription coverage but have prescriptions not covered by their insurance.
How does the card work?
Citizens simple pick up a card from any County department and begin using the card. Using the card is easy--simply present the card at a participating pharmacy. There is no enrollment form, no membership fee and no restrictions or limits on frequency of use. Savings range from 13 to 35 percent on purchase of drugs at local pharmacies and up to 50 percent on mail order purchases. Savings differences are based on brand-name prescriptions vs. generic.
Where can the card be used?
There are over 50 participating pharmacies in Buncombe County. The card may be used anywhere in the United Stated where participating pharmacies are located. To locate a participating pharmacy, simply call toll free 1-877-321-2652 or visit naco.advancerx.com
Who pays for this?
The program is administered by Caremark Rx Inc., one of the largest prescription benefit managers in the industry and is of no cost to the County, County taxpayers, National Association of Counties or the participant.
