A big brush fire in Buncombe County has burned a home and is affecting traffic on Interstate 40, according to Emergency Operations officials.
Emergency crews from multiple agencies are in the process of battling the fire in the Ridgecrest area of Black Mountain. The fire is near Mile Marker 67 of I-40.
Firefighters are attempting to contain the fire while contending with winds from the west. A helicopter was brought in to attempt to fight the fire from above.
An officer with the Black Mountain Police Department said that residents have not yet been evacuated but were encouraged to avoid the area if possible.
