The people of Buncombe County’s most vital records are stored in the Register of Deeds’ Office. All Buncombe land transactions, births, deaths, and marriages are recorded there.
The office maintains:
- real property index of the county, including deeds, easements, rights of way, and leaseholds
- instruments of security such as mortgages and deeds of trust and conditional sales contracts
- military service records
- records of the office of notaries public and corporate records including charters, amendments and dissolutions, partnership agreements, businesses operating under assumed names
- and various other record
