Slave Deeds & Genealogical Workshop - May 18

On Saturday, May 18, from 2 - 4 p.m., Pack Memorial Library will host a FREE workshop with genealogical researcher Sasha Mitchell with a special focus on African American family history research. 

Topics will include: the meaning and importance of Buncombe County's slave deeds and their publication online, gathering and recording information from oral history and home sources, searching for local records, and using new technology for collaboration and online sharing.  For more information, contact Pack Library at 250-4700 and ask for Tammy Silver.

CEU's are available for educators through the Center for Diversity Education.

Workshop for Teachers

On Monday, August 12 from  1 - 4 p.m. there will be a workshop where teachers will be able to view these primary source documents with a closer look, and out of the box, to create ways to use them in the classroom for grades 4 - 12.

The workshop will take place in Lord Auditorium at Pack Memorial Library. It will include a downtown walking tour of sites significant to the African American community.
