Health and Social Services Integrated

Welcome to the new Health and Human Services! Under the direction of the Board of Commissioners, Buncombe County formally integrated the departments of Public Health, Social Work Services, Public Assistance, Veterans Services and Parks Greenways and Recreation in September 2012.  The planning for this transition began in 1992 and has been realized through a redesigned integrated service center at 40 Coxe Avenue.

What does this mean for our citizens?

It means that working mothers and fathers, the elderly, disabled, and our veterans can find easy access to coordinated services that support their ability to make better choices about their health, safety and well-being.

Working parents can find easy access to immunizations, food assistance and nutrition counseling that support the health of their children and position their children for success in school. It also means that children of elderly parents can find resources to care for their parent in a home setting, and adults accessing our family planning can get sound counseling that supports the health and stability of their family.  Our integrated technology allows citizens to apply on-line or over the phone for multiple services, saving time and money.

By coordinating resources across departments in meaningful ways, we lift the futures of our community and its members.
