A free evening of jazz will be offered March 20 at 6 p.m. at Pack Memorial Library. Featuring piano, trombone and percussion, this concert will be a brief foray into the jazz form of free improvisation. Pianist Michael Jefry Stevens will perform with percussionist Rob Falvo and Harold McKinney on trombone.
Composer and Steinway artist Michael Jefry Stevens performs extensively in Europe, Latin America, and North America. He has composed over 400 works for both large and small ensembles. An active band leader for over 30 years, Stevens has released over 80 CDs featuring his own music and has performed with many of the top names in jazz. He has a new CD Mountain Song scheduled for release in spring 2014 on ARC Recordings.
Trombone player Harold McKinney and percussionist Rob Falvo are music professors with the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University. They have recorded the CD, Syncopated Synapse, with Gypsy Harvest, a collective of poets, dancers, and musicians which has performed extensively in the US and Europe.
