Buncombe County celebrated its 75th anniversary of the opening of the County Courthouse in 2004.
Completed in 1928 (just 18 months after breaking ground), the courthouse cost 2 million dollars to construct. It was and still is the tallest Courthouse in North Carolina. The jail was housed in the top floors and was a “state of the art” concept in 1928.
