General Statement of Duties
Work involves determining eligibility of clients to receive assistance through Department of Social Services using an electronic state system.
Examples of Work
Duties include processing applications of caseload for applicants/recipients using an electronic system. Important functions of this position include gathering data concerning family, health and finances (budgeting), verifying information given; and inputting this information accurately and appropriately in the NC Fast System
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to navigate through a complex electronic eligibility system to input appropriately and accurately client eligibility information. To appropriately apply rules and regulations and often changing policies and guidelines pertaining to eligibility programs; ability to conduct interviews and interpret agency policies and procedures to people of varied social, economic, and educational backgrounds to obtain data for documentation and verification of information needed in determining eligibility, detect need for other agency services and make appropriate referrals to the service staff; work with facts and figures and perform tasks involving a high degree of accuracy, learn the intricacies of numerous forms and procedures of the public assistance programs. Interest in and understanding of the needs, problems, and attitudes of the disadvantaged persons. Should possess qualities of patience and tolerance in adverse and frustrating conditions. Ability to work efficiently in multiple technology based systems.
Minimum Education and Experience
One year experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker I. Will accept applications for Income Maintenance Caseworker I for a possible work-against, with the following qualifications: Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
