Health Promotion / school based health centers

The Student Health Centers are school-based health centers that provide health care services to students. Before a child can be seen, parents must sign a yearly consent. Since healthy students learn better, the Student Health Centers work to keep them well and healthy. When students are well they miss fewer school days, perform better and have the best chance for a bright future.
Student Health Centers are located at:
- Asheville High School
- Asheville Middle School
- Erwin Middle School
The centers work with students, parents, school staff and primary care providers to give the type of care and guidance youth need most. We encourage students to take care of themselves and to make better decisions for their overall well-being.
School-based health centers improve access to health care for teens by:
- helping reduce the number of missed school days; and
- preventing parents from missing work to take their children to the doctor.
Teens are the least likely age group to seek health care, yet they engage in behaviors that can be harmful to their health. By making health care available in the school, we help make sure students get the health care services they need to become and remain healthy.
Student Health Centers provide health care to students regardless of their ability to pay.
