The
School Nursing Program helps schools meet the health needs
of their students.
Our services range from supporting children with complex health issues to encouraging healthy lifestyle choices among all students.
School Nursing Care services Include:
- Health Assessment and Referrals
- Training of school staff to handle medication administration, invasive procedures, chronic illness (diabetes, asthma…)
- Coordinate healthcare for students with special needs
- Provide health information to students and school staff
- Assist with immunization compliance and school safety
Student Health Center services include:
- Acute Care or Sick Visits
- Sports Physicals
- Chronic Disease Monitoring
- Health Risk Assessment, Counseling and Referral
- Nutrition Counseling
- Mental Health Counseling
- Health Education
- Lab Testing
- Pharmacy Services
- Referral and Follow-up
- Collaboration with school staff
- Immunizations
- Link with Primary Care Providers
- Controlling Asthma Triggers

School Health Services are available during school hours.
How are services paid for?
School Health Division services are paid for by grants, Mission St. Joseph's Hospital, Asheville City and Buncombe County School Systems and the Buncombe County Health Center.
Student Health Center services are billable to Medicaid, private insurance and families of students seen.
