Birth Certificates of those born in Buncombe County dating back to the 1800's (in cases of delayed certificate) are on file in this office. If you wish to obtain a Certified Birth Certificate, (one with a seal) we require you to complete our application form for a Vital Record according to G.S. 161.10. This application requires your name, relation to the applicant, and your address. We may require photo ID. you may come to the office, or submit a written request by printing and filling out the form listed below.

N. C. Law allows us to issue Certified Birth Certificates ONLY to the following:
- Record for yourself
- Your spouse
- brother
- sister
- child
- step child
- grand child
- your parent
- step, or grand parent
The law also allows anyone seeking information for legal determination of personal or property right or someone authorized as an agent, attorney, or legal representative of the person who's certificate is being requested.
We do not have any birth records on-line.
Adoption Records
All Adoption Records are removed from this office and must be obtained from Vital Records in Raleigh, N. C. http://vitalrecords.dhhs.state.nc.us.

- Certified Birth Certificates are $10.00 each
- Uncertified copies are $.25
- If you are 62 years of age or older there is no charge for one (1) Certified Birth Certificate.
