Let's Talk.

Let's Talk is a platform that allows you to have an open line of communication to Buncombe County and helps us connect you to County-based resources. You can call and leave a message at (828) 250-4066, email us at letstalk@buncombecounty.org, or fill out the form below. Your questions, concerns, and comments will be responded to in a timely manner *.

Notice: Let's Talk is only monitored during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

How Does It Work?

Let's Talk comments are read by your Communications Team and distributed to the appropriate people and departments based on the feedback.

Let's Talk Flowchart: Comment cards, online submissions, and phone messages are submitted by the public and received by both our Communications Team and an Internal Auditor. Next, the Let's Talk Coordinator forwards the message to the relevant county department or employee for an answer or awareness. The response from the relevant department or employee gets sent back to the Communications Team, which then forwards the information to the original Submittor (if contact information was provided). Here are two examples of the Let's Talk process: 1) comments for the County Manager will go to the County Clerk and Board of Commissioners and the County Manager; and 2) health benefit questions or comments go to the Human Resources Director, the County Clerk and board of Commissioners, and the County Manager.

What's It For?

Let's Talk is for:

  • Connecting you to County services, programs, and resources.
  • Passing along feedback about positive experiences with County services.
  • Providing suggestions about how the County can improve services.
  • Asking questions you can't readily find answers to on our website.
  • It's also a tool the public and employees can use to leave anonymous feedback.
  • Public reporting of fraud, mismanagement of funds, or misconduct.

Let's Talk is not for:

  • Let's Talk is not for submitting excuses for jury duty. County administration is a completely different entity than the court system housed in Buncombe County. To file an excuse for jury duty, you can call (828) 259-3400 and press option 2.
  • Questions, concerns, or comments for Asheville, Biltmore Forest, Black Mountain, Montreat, Weaverville, or Woodfin. We are happy to help connect you to resources, but often we don't have the best contact information for nuanced questions about the County's six municipalities.
  • Let's Talk is happy to provide you resources, contact information, etc. to agencies outside of Buncombe County. However, it is your responsibility to contact those organizations for issues in their jurisdiction. We will not do that for you.

Let's Talk — fraud, abuse of authority, mismanagement of funds, or other misconduct

The public may use Let's Talk to report fraud, abuse of authority, mismanagement of funds, or misconduct. However, we urge employee comments concerning the aforementioned to be directed to your supervisor, the Internal Audit Department, or our third-party, independent hotline that allows you to express concerns anonymously. The report line can be found on County Central under the “Employee Interests” menu, then click on “Report Line” in the submenu. If you are a member of the public concerned about the aforementioned please use Let's Talk to submit a comment.

That being said, if you feel more secure using Let's Talk to report fraud, abuse of authority, and/or mismanagement of funds, then details such as specific events, dates, names, are helpful to launching an investigation. We take all allegations of the aforementioned seriously, but the County cannot conduct an investigation based on vague, abstract statements.

For example:

  • Vague statement: My supervisor is mean to me.
  • Specific statement: On Tuesday, Jan. 15, John Doe verbally berated a coworker. A number of coworkers witnessed this and are upset about the incident.
