What Has Buncombe County’s Community Development Division Accomplished for Affordable Housing?

The need for affordable housing in Buncombe County is more pressing than ever before as the County’s population has rapidly increased and is slated to continue to grow. The most recent Housing Needs Assessment describes the existing need for housing, particularly affordable housing, in Buncombe County and the broader region. In 2022, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners set goals to meet the extreme need for affordable housing. These goals include a variety of different needs; from the construction of 1,500-1,850 new affordable units for rent, 500 income-eligible homes repaired for families in Buncombe County, and much more.
