Buncombe County Health and Human Services Director, Mandy Stone, announces that effective January 1, 2014, Southwestern Child Development Commission will become the new operator for Valley Child Development Center, located in Swannanoa, NC. The new operator was selected as the best candidate to maintain the child care center’s five star, high quality rating, as well as their commitment to continue serving 45 children, including children of teen parents at Buncombe Community School.
The county is committed to a smooth transition for parents, children and staff who work at Valley Child Development Center. Meetings with parents and childcare staff are scheduled on November 12, 13 and 18, to share transition plans and answer questions.
Southwestern Child Development Commission has been in existence since 1972 and has a solid record of providing high quality services in 12 child care centers in western counties of NC. Buncombe County HHS currently partners with Southwestern Child Development Commission to administer the child care subsidy (voucher) program and as a respected leader for high quality, accessible, affordable early care and education.
