Facts about domestic violence:
- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
- On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.
- Women between the ages of 18-34 are at the greatest risk of domestic violence from an intimate partner.
- In 2 out of 3 female homicide cases, they are killed by a family member or intimate partner.
- Without help, girls who witness domestic violence are more vulnerable to abuse as teens and adults.
- Without help, boys who witness domestic violence are far more likely to become abusers of their partners and/or children as adults, thus continuing the cycle of violence in the next generation.
