Buncombe County Government is pleased to announce that George Wood has been selected as Interim County Manager.
Wood has served in local government management for 40 years, most recently as County Manager in Lincoln County, North Carolina and Wayne County, North Carolina, where he recently retired. He currently resides in Lincolnton, North Carolina.
Wood is a native of Savannah, Georgia. He is a graduate of Georgia Southern University and received a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas in 1978. He is well credentialed and has a long list of accomplishments over the course of his career. Most recently, his Wayne County accomplishments include capital investments, school renovations, economic development, technological improvements, and debt refinancing while maintaining the county’s credit rating. In addition to his most recent work, he has served as Manager of numerous municipalities including Kings Mountain, NC; Cleveland, TN; Statesboro, GA; and Pinehurst, NC.
