On Jan. 14, the Board of Elections officially approved the appointment of Corinne Duncan as Director of Buncombe County Election Services. The selection comes following a nationwide search featuring many qualified candidates. Currently an Elections Technical Specialist for Buncombe County, Duncan’s appointment brings a significant amount of institutional knowledge and experience that will be extremely beneficial as work continues ahead of the March 3 primary election.
“In addition to Corinne’s elections experience, she possesses a high degree of leadership, team building, collaboration, and management skills. These skills are critical to ensure the continued success of the Elections Services Department,” notes Assistant County Manager DK Wesley. “We are grateful for Corinne’s innovation and commitment to continuous improvement over the past four years, and we have full confidence that her inspired leadership will be instrumental in advancing the department into the future.”
County Board of Elections Chairman Jake Quinn also offers his support: “The Board is excited to be moving forward with Corinne as our new Director. She has our full support as we continue to strive to offer the best election services in North Carolina.”
Duncan is a Certified Elections Administrator and says she’s excited about the new opportunity. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Buncombe County in this capacity. Standing on the shoulders of previous Director Trena Parker-Velez, I am lucky to be surrounded by an exceptionally talented team,” exclaims Duncan. “The 2020 election year will certainly bring challenges, but I am confident that together we will be successful.”
Duncan says as a dedicated public servant she will champion everyone’s right to vote and understands the importance of effective communication with the public. “Voting is a true community endeavor, and it is important to relay gratitude for the work of our staff, previous director, Board, the organizations that open their facilities to voting, and the hundreds of poll workers that help us each election.”

Corinne Duncan’s professional bio
Corinne Duncan is a North Carolina Certified Elections Administrator and has worked with Buncombe County since 2015. She has a master’s degree from Oregon State University and was a recent recipient of the 40 Under Forty Leadership Award. She and her team were recognized by the Buncombe County Commissioners after receiving an LGFCU Excellence in Innovation Award for their work on the early voting wait map which now serves voters every election. In her spare time, Duncan enjoys being outdoors, long-distance day hikes, exploring the Asheville food scene, and meeting new people.
