Friendly Reminder: County Offices are Closed for July 4 Holiday

On Thursday, July 4, all Buncombe County administrative offices will be closed in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Offices will be open on their regular schedule on Friday, July 5. Please see more information on County schedules below.

Buncombe County Animal Shelter

The Buncombe County Animal Shelter will be closed Thursday, July 4. Please note the Animal Shelter does not operate the same hours as the Adoption Center – it's closed on Sundays and all recognized Buncombe County holidays. On holidays, the shelter runs an emergency schedule, opening for 15 minutes only at 9 a.m., noon, and 3 p.m.

Buncombe County Board of Elections

Administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4.

Buncombe County Courthouse

Buncombe County courts observe the North Carolina Judicial Branch holiday schedule and will be closed Thursday, July 4.  

Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office

Buncombe County Sheriff's Office front desk will be closed Thursday, July 4. All other operations will be on a normal schedule.

Emergency Services & Public Safety Communications

Administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4. EMS and 911 maintain normal operations.

Family Justice Center

The Family Justice Center will be closed Thursday, July 4. You can find 24-hour hotline information on our website.

Health & Human Services

All BCHHS services will be closed Thursday, July 4.

ID Bureau 

The Identification Bureau at 52 Coxe Ave. will be closed Thursday, July 4.

Mountain Mobility

Mountain Mobility will only be offering City of Asheville ADA complementary paratransit service on Thursday, July 4.

Parks & Recreation

Parks & Recreation administrative offices are closed Thursday, July 4. All Buncombe County public parks and pools are open on their regular schedules. The annual fireworks celebration takes place Saturday, June 29 at Lake Julian Park. Please check here for more information before heading out.  

Public Libraries

All Buncombe County Public Libraries will be closed Thursday, July 4. The digital library is always available at buncombecounty.org/library.

Register of Deeds

The Buncombe County Register of Deeds Office will be closed Thursday, July 4. Online services will remain available. 

Solid Waste

The Landfill and Transfer Station are closed on Thursday, July 4.

Tax Collections/Property Assessment

Administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4. 

Waste Pro
Waste Pro will be closed with no trash/recycling collection on Thursday, July 4. Thursday collections will take place on Friday, and Friday collections will take place on Saturday.
