After adjourning from a closed session during their April 20 meeting, Buncombe County Commissioners approved accepting $175,000 in settlement money from former Commissioner Ellen Frost. According to the County’s lawyer for this case, the money stems from unauthorized use of public funds related to the Tryon International Equestrian Center and does not represent additional money the County continues to seek from former County Manager Wanda Greene.
This lawsuit is one of many settlements the County has accepted from previous employees convicted of various crimes. Commission Chair Brownie Newman thanked the legal team for its work to recover “all the taxpayer money abused” noting it’s another important step in that effort.
