June 17 Update: At the regular meeting on June 15, The Board of Commissioners asked that changes to Pack Memorial be removed from the Comprehensive Facilities Plan at this time. Check back here and we will be sharing more about the planned listening sessions soon.
After hearing from our community, Buncombe County staff is pressing pause on the Library Master Plan portion of the Comprehensive Facilities Plan.
“We know that our libraries are true community hubs and our patrons are passionate about their local branches,” says Library Director Jim Blanton. “Our immediate goal is to take the consultant’s recommendations and ideas back out to the community to continue our public engagement process.”
The Comprehensive Facilities Plan, with an evaluation of Pack Memorial’s location and excluding the plan for regional libraries, will go before the Board of Commissioners for approval at their Tuesday, June 15, regular meeting.
For the next steps, Buncombe County Public Libraries, the Library Board, and Communications and Public Engagement will develop an expanded plan for listening sessions that will be shared with the public in the coming days.
