Asheville, N.C. (June 11, 2021) –
Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Alan Z. Thornburg, Chief District Court Judge J. Calvin Hill, and Clerk of Superior Court Steven D. Cogburn have issued a new administrative order relaxing the mask mandate at the Buncombe County Courthouse effective June 12th.
Citing “recent statewide and local improvements in key COVID-19 metrics …” the three officials have ordered that “after June 12, 2021, face coverings will no longer be required for individuals admitted to Buncombe County court facilities unless otherwise directed by a judicial officer.”
Judges still have discretion in how they conduct proceedings in their courtrooms.
