The annual Bareroot Spring Plant Sale is back in season. Hosted by Buncombe County Soil & Water Conservation District, the sale will take place on Saturday, March 1 at Erwin High School. The plant sale will be open from 10 a.m. until we’re sold out.

The popular event will feature native plants like little bluestem, river oats, cinnamon fern, elderberry, persimmon, paw paw, sweet birch, and several apple tree varieties.

This year, selected riparian species will be offered at wholesale prices to support post-Helene streambank restoration.

Native plants are a great option for planting because they help support healthy habitats and are usually low maintenance once established.

This sale is very popular, and plants are expected to sell out quickly!

Additionally, on Friday, Feb. 21, Buncombe County Soil & Water will host a Meadow Workshop with Emily Sampson, founder of Patchwork Meadows. Participants will learn about establishing and maintaining the meadows that Patchwork Meadows created between 2000 and 2004. Register for the workshop here.

Prices:
Bareroot trees and shrubs: $2-5
Grasses: $1-5
Berries and apples: $5-15

The sale accepts only credit cards as payment. All proceeds will support environmental education.
