As part of Buncombe County’s Fair Housing plan, Community Development recently held two fair housing training sessions in partnership with Legal Aid’s Fair Housing Project, City of Asheville, and Land of Sky Regional Council.

The morning session addressed topics for HUD funded grantees, landlords, and property managers. An afternoon session covered fair housing basics for housing advocates, case managers, and the public.

If you were unable to attend the sessions, recordings and materials are available at engage.buncombecounty.org. The site has also been updated with LGBTQIA+ resources and materials.

The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, and disability. Recently the Board of Commissioners approved a plan to affirmatively further fair housing.

If you or someone you know has experienced housing discrimination in Buncombe County, please contact the non-discrimination coordinator at (828) 250-6568, email ndo@buncombecounty.org, or start a complaint online at buncombecounty.org/ndo.
