Buncombe County Manager Avril Pinder will be playing an important role in the statewide oversight of North Carolina’s retirement system. On June 11, Governor Roy Cooper announced a series of board and committee appointments, including Pinder’s selection to the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees’ Retirement System Board of Trustees. Per the state’s website, the Board oversees the system that provides benefits to employees of cities, towns, counties, boards, commissions, and other entities of local government in North Carolina. Because participation by local governments is voluntary, the operation of LGERS is dependent upon the acceptance and continuing financial support of the governing bodies and employees of local governments. The LGERS Board of Trustees is comprised of 13 members, including eight members representing local governments. Buncombe County is one of the many counties that voluntarily participates in the state’s retirement system.
Buncombe County congratulates Avril Pinder on this statewide recognition of her leadership, financial, and other skills. You can read the full announcement from Governor Cooper’s office here.
