Kevin Lance Retires from Air Quality with 30 years of Service

Kevin Lance has retired from Air Quality with 30 years of service.  His last day was May 31. He has accepted a position with the North Carolina Division of Air Quality (NC DAQ).

Agency Director Ashley Featherstone says Kevin was one of the agency’s longest serving employees. Kevin served in many capacities over the years, conducting compliance inspections, managing and operating the ambient monitoring network and leading the field services team, which included responding to countless open burning complaints and educating residents about what is legal (and not legal) to burn on their property.

There is no doubt that his work resulted in cleaner air for the residents of Buncombe County. Last year he worked with the Buncombe County Board of Education, EPA and NC DAQ to relocate the fine particulate monitoring site from a roof top to the ground. He led the effort to install a community science station that is in use and available for special air pollution studies.

“Kevin has been a great asset to the Agency and we are very grateful to him for his many years of service," Ashley says. "We wish him all the best and he will be missed.”

The Asheville-Buncombe Air Quality Agency Board hosted a reception to honor and thank Kevin for his 30 years of service to the agency and residents of Buncombe County. The reception took place prior to the Agency’s Board meeting. Kevin was also be recognized at the beginning of the Board meeting. Click here to view a livestream recording of the meeting.
