Join us: Overdose Awareness Day Ceremony on Aug.31

To commemorate the day and connect with the community, Buncombe County is partnering with Seek Healing in the Overdose Awareness Day Ceremony on Saturday, August 31 at Carrier Park from noon to 5 p.m. 

This free community event will offer people who have been impacted by a drug overdose experience, along with their friends and families, a chance to come together for collective reflection and grieving. 

Event activities include a community lunch, a panel discussion from substance use professionals, harm reduction resource demo, and more.

Ultimately, Overdose Awareness Day is about accessing resources, information, interventions, harm reduction, and care options before tragedy strikes.

Support for individuals experiencing opioid use disorder and their loved ones is available, regardless of insurance coverage. Go to www.buncombecounty.org/safer for more information.

Noon-12:30 p.m. Welcome and moment of silence 
12:30 -1 p.m. Community lunch + connection 
1-2 p.m. Substance use professionals panel discussion 
2-2:30 p.m. Harm reduction resource demo 
2:30-3 p.m. Seek Healing connection moment 
3-4 p.m. Memorial: calling of names and grief ceremony 
4-5 p.m. Community story telling
