Tropical Storm Helene and Buncombe County Property Tax Payments

files in a drawer with a property tax tab

The Buncombe County Tax Collections Department is operational after Tropical Storm Helene. This FAQ addresses questions about we have been getting about property tax payments.

Can I visit the Tax Collections office at 94 Coxe Ave. in person?

Our office is currently closed to in-person services. We will announce reopening plans once we have them.

How can I talk to someone in Tax Collections?

Property Tax professionals are here to help and available during normal business hours to answer your questions at (828) 250-4910.

Can I set up a payment arrangement for my 2024 property taxes?

Yes, please call our office during business hours (Mon.-Fri. 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) at (828) 250-4910.

Do I still need to pay my 2024 property taxes?

Yes. Taxable values for tax year 2024 were determined as of Jan. 1, 2024. North Carolina law does not allow property tax waivers or taxable value reductions following a natural disaster in the current tax year. The taxable values as of Jan. 1 and the calculated property taxes for tax year 2024 cannot be waived or prorated.

Will the property tax due date be adjusted due to Tropical Storm Helene?

Jan. 5 is by law the last date to pay property taxes to avoid the accrual of interest on the amount owed. Current law offers neither exceptions nor flexibility for natural disasters. Because Jan. 5, 2025 falls on a weekend, the last day to pay property taxes before interest begins accruing is Jan. 6, 2025.

How can I pay my property taxes?
