Following Hurricane Helene, Buncombe County is restoring access to public parks where possible. The following parks are currently open with adjusted hours and limited access in some areas:
- Buncombe County Sports Park: Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Limited areas are accessible, including the dog park, community garden, disc golf course, Fields 1, 2, 8, and 9, and the playground. Portions of the park remain closed as it serves as a water distribution site and a community care station with showers and laundry facilities. No shelter reservations are available at this time.
- Cane Creek Playground: Open during daylight hours only.
- Hominy Valley Park: Open during daylight hours only.
- North Buncombe Fields: Open during daylight hours only.
- Bent Creek River Park: Open during daylight hours only. While the park is accessible, visitors are advised not to use the river at this time.
- Corcoran Paige River Park
The County requests that residents avoid closed parks to ensure safety and support cleanup efforts.
The following parks remain closed:
- Lake Julian
- Owen Park
- Karpen Soccer Fields
- The Ledges
- Alexander River Park
- Walnut River Park
- Glen Bridge River Park
The community’s cooperation is appreciated as work continues to restore full access to all parks.
