Buncombe County Department of Health has received a $2,125 grant from the Buncombe County Medical Society & Alliance Endowment (BCMS&A) to offer flu vaccine to homeless individuals.
With this grant award, Buncombe County Department of Health will partner with the Western NC Rescue Mission to provide flu vaccine to up to 100 underserved homeless individuals. Up to 10 age-appropriate homeless individuals will be provided the pneumoccal vaccine. MANNA Food Bank Executive Director, Kitty Shaller has graciously agreed to provide snack bags to each of the homeless participants.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Medical Society to care for the needs of our county’s residents,” said Gibbie Harris, Buncombe County Department of Health Director. “I’m very happy that we have this opportunity to help our homeless residents.”
The Buncombe County Medical Society was formed in 1885 to help physicians strengthen the practice of medicine and improve healthcare outcomes for county residents. The Buncombe County Medical Society is known for its leadership and innovation in addressing issues of access and disparities to quality healthcare.
