Buncombe County Experiencing Increase in Opioid Related Overdoses

In the past 24 hours, there has been a significant rise in opiate overdoses in Buncombe County, particularly in the 28806 zip code.

We strongly encourage the community and partners to:

  • Distribute the opioid reversal drug Naloxone.
  • Promote harm reduction resources.
  • Recommend fentanyl test strips for all substances.

Our priority is community safety. Community Paramedics are responding to this situation on the ground, working closely with Buncombe County partners to help prevent further overdoses by providing services and sharing public notifications like this one. Local harm reduction resources offer essential, life-saving services and support for individuals who are actively using, in recovery, or considering starting recovery.
